Sibling rivalry set aside for cycling fundraiser!

Cycling sisters Hannah and Alice Barnes, who grew up in Towcester, have set aside sibling rivalry to show their support for Northamptonshire’s favourite annual fundraising bike ride, Cycle4Cynthia!

23-year-old Hannah and 20-year-old Alice were reunited in Northampton on Sunday for Stage 5 of the Aviva Women’s Tour and despite competing against each other in their respective Canyon//Sram and Drops cycling teams, generously took time out of their final race preparations to demonstrate their commitment to the September ride staged in aid of Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

“Hannah and I are really pleased to be back in the county and on roads that are so familiar to us from our childhood” explained Alice.

“I know that Cycle4Cynthia riders will be following some of our route and so we both really encourage everyone to take part as it’s always a wonderful event and raises money for such a great cause” she enthused.

But as Hannah revealed, the pre-event amnesty wasn’t going to last: “Of course today is all about being competitive and wanting to do the very best I can, even if that means beating my sister” said Hannah “but I know Alice will be thinking the same!” she added.

Before returning to their respective camps and joining their teammates at the start line, the sisters generously signed the special Cycle4Cynthia jerseys they had sported and those will be raffled to raise more money for the Hospice.

Cycle4Cynthia is taking place on Sunday 25th September at the new venue of Holdenby House, by kind permission of James and Karen Lowther.

More information, including details of the routes, entry and sponsorship forms and hot to support the event are available on this website. Meanwhile, to purchase a C4C jersey priced at £25, please call the Hospice on 01604 678082.

Cyclists are also encouraged to keep up to date with the latest news by ‘liking’ the ride’s page on Facebook.
