Curtis Stigers unveiled as celebrity cyclist at Cycle4Cynthia 2009

American jazz vocalist and saxophonist Curtis Stigers has been unveiled as the celebrity cyclist for this year’s Cycle4Cynthia – it has been announced today (Sep 10).

The singer, who has performed with artists including Elton John, Rod Stewart and Prince and sang with journalist Penny Smith in the BBC TV programme Just The Two of Us in 2006, will be at the start line on September 27th to officially start the county’s sixth Cycle4Cynthia fundraiser.

John Pinkham, Cycle4Cynthia Chairman, said: “We are so delighted to have singing sensation Curtis Stigers at our event. Not only will he officially start the event at Franklin’s Gardens, but he will also mingle with cyclists and generate a real buzz and sense of celebration on the day. This is such a coup for Cycle4Cynthia and something for the whole county to celebrate.”

With entries flooding in Cycle4Cynthia 2009 is already on target to be the biggest and best yet. Once again it is raising money for two charities which provide care and support for people with cancer and cancer related illness in Northamptonshire - The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.

At the heart of this year’s event is a drive to increase the amount of sponsorship raised, and the organisers are also challenging cyclists to get in the mood and don fancy dress costumes. Since its launch Cycle4Cynthia has raised over £100,000 for the cancer care in the county and this year’s event target is to exceed the £34,000 raised last year.

Cycle4Cynthia 2009 will, for the second year running, link up with the Saints and the event’s three routes - five, 25 and 50 miles in length – will start and finish at the home of the Saints rugby team, Franklin’s Gardens. The first group of cyclists will leave at 9am.
