Cycle4Cynthia moves to Althorp!

With exactly six months to the big day, the team behind the county’s largest fundraising cycle ride is delighted to announce that Cycle 4 Cynthia has a new home – and one that couldn’t be more appropriate!

Yes, the annual event, which has raised more than £150,000 for the Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and the county branch of Macmillan Cancer Support since it began in 2004, is moving to Althorp, home of The Earl Spencer.

As The Earl explained, it’s a most apt home for the ride. "Im really pleased that Cycle 4 Cynthia is coming to Althorp: its the perfect venue for an event that supports the hospice named after my grandmother, Cynthia Spencer and also Macmillan here in Northamptonshire. I hope that the 2011 ride will build on the success of past years. Im very aware that this is a fun event - but also that its a hugely important fundraising one for Cynthia Spencer, an institution that sits at the heart of our community, and the vital cancer charity that is Macmillan.”

Said Sue Bownass from the Friends, “We’re all really excited that Althorp is the new venue for this year’s ride. As the hospice’s President, Earl Spencer has always been a wonderful supporter and it’s great that he’s throwing open his gates to welcome our cyclists in this way. Frankly I can’t think of a more beautiful setting to start and end the ride than one of the country’s finest stately homes!”

Added Marcus Cox, Macmillan’s Fundraising Manager for Northamptonshire “We have an annual spring walk at Althorp which is always well supported so it’ll be great to be back there in September as well. I hope that some of our walkers will be tempted to leap into their saddles for the return visit!”

Meanwhile Chair of C4C John Pinkham thanked the Saints, who have played host to the event for the last three years. “The club has been fantastic in allowing us to stage the ride at Franklin’s Gardens and I know they will continue to support us. But we hope that the move to Althorp will help to attract many hundreds more riders to take part in this fantastic event and raise even more money for these two remarkable charities...which is our ultimate aim.”

Cycle 4 Cynthia 2011 will take place at Althorp on Sunday 25th September and will again offer cyclists the challenge of 5, 25 or 50-mile routes. Entry is £10 for adults, £5 for children and £25 for families. For further information about the change of venue and the new routes, please visit www.cycle4cynthia.co.uk
