Cycle ride pedals off to new venue!

Northamptonshire’s favourite annual fundraising bike ride has been launched for its eleventh year with the exciting news that it is on the move!

Cycle 4 Cynthia, which has now raised more than three hundred thousand pounds for its two benefiting charities - The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support in the county - over the past decade, has been held at Althorp for the last three years but, this year, Lamport Hall will be the host venue.

The details were revealed at the launch event staged at Franklin’s Gardens (Weds 12th Feb) where Saints players Christian Day and Sam Dickinson were on hand to present the trophies to the prize winners from last year’s ride and to hand over the cheque for the money raised in 2013 – an impressive total, being just shy of £52,000!

Launch host Sue Bownass from the Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice thanked all those who’d helped to make the tenth anniversary ride such a success; “Every year, we never imagine that it could get any better, yet every year it does!” she enthused.

“On behalf of both Macmillan and the hospice I would like to say a massive thank you to all those fabulous riders who took part last year, to all the amazing the volunteers who helped on the day and to our sponsors, who all played their part in raising such a wonderful sum of money which will enable our two charities to continue our valuable work.” she added.

Among those at the launch was 56 year-old Mike Holliday who is President of the A5 Rangers Cycling Club based in Towcester. Having taken part in the ride with his wife Sue as part of a club team for the last 5 years, he says he’s looking forward to the challenge of the new venue and is encouraging more riders to leap into the saddle; “The event has had a number of homes over the last decade and it’s exciting to learn that it’s moving to Lamport because it just adds a new dimension and of course we’ll be seeing different parts of Northamptonshire too, which keeps it fresh!” Mike explained.

“But regardless of the beautiful backdrop, the ride is about enjoying the pedalling and showing support for these two remarkable charities, so I’d urge everyone to come and join us and share the fun of what is always a super day!” he added.

Cycle 4 Cynthia 2014, again offering riders 5, 25 or 50 mile routes, is taking place on Sunday 21st September at Lamport Hall.

More information, including details of the new routes and entry and sponsorship forms will be available shortly at www.cycle4cynthia.com or by calling Sue at the hospice on 01604 678088.
