Fancy dress challenge for Cycle4Cynthia biker

With prizes for the best fancy dress and most sponsorship raised up for grabs the training and preparation for Cycle4Cynthia 2009 has already begun.

Cycle4Cynthia, now in its sixth year and scheduled for Sunday, September 27th, is once again raising money for two charities which provide care and support for people with cancer and cancer related illness in Northamptonshire - The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.

At the heart of this year’s event is a drive to increase the amount of sponsorship raised, and the organisers are also challenging cyclists to get in the mood and don fancy dress costumes.

John Pinkham, Chairman of Cycle4Cynthia, said: “This year we are focusing on raising as money as possible and sponsorship will be at the heart of our success. Last year we raised £34,000 for the two charities but we are determined to step the fundraising up a gear and raise at least £40,000 in 2009. We can only do this if all our cyclists get sponsored. Just imagine how well we would all do if everyone raised £100!”

Sue Bownass, from The Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice, added: “We had some fantastic fancy dress costumes last year which made for a very colourful start line, and lots of the people who have entered this year’s are already planning their outfits – and anything goes!”

Cycle4Cynthia 2009 will, for the second year running, link up with the Saints and the event’s three routes - five, 25 and 50 miles in length – will start and finish at the home of the Saints rugby team, Franklin’s Gardens. The first group of cyclists will leave at 9am.
