Flour power for charity cycle ride!
One of Northamptonshire’s most iconic food firms is among those companies lending their support to the county’s favourite annual cycle ride – and is doing so both in pedalling and in pounds!Heygates Flour and Animal Feed based at Bugbrooke is not only entering a team into Cycle 4 Cynthia, which is this year raising money for Cynthia Spencer Hospice and the Northampton children’s charity Kidsaid, but is also sponsoring one of the pit stops which offers refreshments to the cyclists en route.
The ride, which is taking place on Sunday 21st September, is starting from Lamport Hall and Heygates’ team captain, Laurie Pearson says he and his fellow pedallers are looking forward to jumping into the saddle again at the new venue; “We’ve loved being part of this wonderful event for a number of years because it has a really amazing atmosphere and it’s a super way to support these two great causes while having fun at the same time” explained Laurie.
“The last three years at Althorp were fantastic with more than 1000 riders creating a really colourful spectacle, but it’s great to have the challenge of this new setting as it keeps the event really fresh, so I’d urge more businesses to pull on their lycra and join us!” he enthused.
Those are sentiments echoed by Sue Bownass at the hospice who believes that the excitement behind the recent UK leg of the Tour de France and the Commonwealth Games, following hot on the heels of the Women’s Tour stages in the county earlier in the summer, will spur even more riders to sign up for the event; “More than a million people turned out in Yorkshire and then East Anglia to watch the professionals whizz by in a few seconds, while the fans also braved the rain in Glasgow to watch the riders, which just goes to prove that the passion for cycling is simply growing and growing” said Sue.
“So we’re really hopeful that we can turn some of that enthusiasm into bums in saddles and that a record number of cyclists will help us to raise more much-needed funds for our two charities” she enthused.
Cycle 4 Cynthia, now in its eleventh year, is on Sunday 21st September and will start and finish at Lamport Hall. It will again offer riders 5, 25 or 50-mile routes around the delightful villages of north and west Northamptonshire. Entry is £15 for adults, £7.50 for children and £35 for families for those registering before 5th September.
